Child Find Policy
It is the policy of Zenith Academy Schools (North, East, West) that all pupils with disabilities attending this school who are in neeed of special education and related services are identified, located, and evaluated. Zenith Academy Schools ensure that:
- Testing and evaluation materials and procedures utilized for the purposes of evaluation and placement of children with disabilities for services will be selected and administered so as not to be racially or culturally discriminatory.
- Materials or procedures shall be provided and adinistered in the child’s native language or mode of communication, unless it clear is not feasible to do so.
- No single procedure shall be the sole criterion for determining an appropriate educational program for a child.
Parent Right-to-Know Information
As required by the Elementary and Secondary Education Assistance (ESEA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)] and the Every Student Succeeds Act [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)]:
Zenith Academy receives Federal Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. Throughout the school year, we will be providing you with important information about this law and your child’s education. This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child. As a Title I School, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials.
Vision and Hearing Screenings
Zenith screens students in kindergarten and first grade annually prior to November 1 of each year for hearing and vision. Referral forms will be mailed to parents if further evaluation by a physician is recommended.
We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time, you may ask:
- Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he or she is teaching
- Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certification throguh which state qualifications were waived
- What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher hold, including graduate certificates and additional degress, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration
- Whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional, and if your child receives this assistance, we can provide your with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law in December of 2015, and which reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA), includes additional right-to-know requests.
At any time, parents and family members can request:
- Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out
- Information on required assessments, including
- subject matter tested
- purpose of the test
- source of the requirements (if applicable)
- amount of time it takes students to complete the test
- time and format of disseminating results
